Frequently Asked Questions
How do you determine the cost of a project?
The fee is based on three factors: the total square footage (size) of the project and the height of the walls and ceilings, the amount of detail and the time needed to complete the actual work, and the cost of materials.
Can you customize a sample according to my preferences?
Absolutely. This is the most important part of the process. Cynthia will work with you to blend the colors of your walls to enhance the architectural details of your home and colors used in the room. Consider using paintings or other art to suggest colors. In other words, you can make your ideas reality.

What are "faux finishes?"
Years ago, the word "faux" (meaning "imitation" in French) meant mimicking a natural surface such as marble or wood grain. Now decorative painters use the word "faux" to define many different kinds of painted surfaces including glazing, marbling, antiquing, color washes, combing, ragging and sponging.
What are the advantages of decorative painted surfaces?
Faux finishes never peel, have no repeat patterns or seams, are washable, can be customized to your specific colors and patterns, and are cost effective. Decorative finishes add dimension and interest to surfaces such as plaster, drywall, wood, or metal. Even the most beautiful wallpapers are produced for the masses and not custom designed for your room. Using a customized faux finish will save endless hours looking for the right solution.
How do I care for painted walls?
Usually it takes two to three weeks before walls are fully cured even though they may feel dry to the touch. Never scour painted walls with anything abrasive or use alcohol or ammonia-based cleaners on your walls. A soft damp cloth can be used to remove any surface dirt once the paint has cured. In high traffic areas, some customers choose to apply a varnish coat over the finished surface. The varnish can be matte or gloss.
Does your paint leave an odor?
In most cases, no. Cynthia uses mostly water-based, nontoxic products that may have a faint odor when first applied that quickly fades away after curing.
How long will my faux finished walls last?
Your decorative walls should last as long as you live in your home. There is no fading. Varnishing is recommended for areas that might come in contact with water frequently.
How soon after we meet will my walls be complete?
Once we have agreed on the price and scope of the job and the wall has been prepared for the decorative coat, your job will be booked to compliment your schedule.
What are stencils?
Intricately cut patterns can be used to create borders, floor patterns that mimic wood inlayed designs, ceiling decorations and allover designs. Damask patterns in unique colors replicate beautiful antique high-end wallpaper but in the exact color and size that will enhance your furniture and accessories. Plus your design will be uniquely customized for your project.
Do you decorate nurseries and children's rooms?
Stencils and faux finishes appeal to children because they can use their favorite themes and characters to decorate their rooms. Nurseries can be customized into beautiful environments to delight and stimulate your baby.
Can you remove existing wallpaper prior to decorative painting?
No, Cynthia does not provide this service. Contact a specialist to remove wallpaper and prepare the walls.
What should I do to prepare for my project?
The walls should be in good condition-fill nail holes, plaster cracks, and have the wall painted to Cynthia's specifications. Cluster furniture in the center of the room and cover it with drop cloths or remove it from the workspace.
